“There’s always room for a story that can transport people to another place.”
– J.K. Rowling
I like objects with a soul. A box with a long story that is twice my age, a saucer decorated with arabesques from a colonial era or a leather bag that used to be my grandmother’s. Perhaps everything around us has a soul, if we agree to acknowledge it.
The Jaffa Flea Market is Cross-Cultural by nature: a mix of vendors, buyers and objects each from a different culture. This exhibition of multicultural items and stories changes daily and offers an encounter with objects that are the setting to local people’s lives. It is a hustling and bustling parade of style and fashion, transformation and trends. Only in this flea market did I meet vendors who designed settings for renowned movie shootings or assisted designers and stylists.
In this Jaffa Tour you will experience the power of stories and their underlying cultural logic. You will discover the links between the most popular designer shops and cafes and the flea market itself. In the surrounding streets, sizzling with posh designer stores and hipster art initiatives you will encounter the connections between an artsy present, a dusty past and a very eclectic future.
Meeting Point: Jaffa Clock Tower
